CHAPTER 1 OF SUMMARY OF CANTERVILLE GHOST

When the american minister, Mr B Otis plans to buy the mansion, Canterville Chase, his english friends warn him against it. Canterville chase was haunted. Even lord Canterville inform him likewise, telling of skeleton hands and the mysterious voices. In this way,
Lord Canterville tries to persuade Mr.Otis to have a second thought before buying a haunted property. The minister tells the owner that he had come from a modern land and did not believe in the existence of a ghost and spirits. Mr.Otis overrules all objections and purchase the mansion.


                  Soon the entire Otis family,even Mr.Otis son and daughter and the two twin move into the mansion. Strangely though the pine woods the weather was pleasant and enchanting ; but the moment they neared canterville chase the mood outside turned ghastly and dull. Its started pelting.















Once they where inside Mrs. Umney, the housekeeper was serving them their tea, Mrs.Otis spotted a huge red stain near the fireplace. Mrs Umney they went on to explain that the stain was indeed a blood stain, back from in 1575. It was from the same day that Eleanore de canterville was murdered by her husband, Sir Simon canterville. the stain could never be removed apparently. Washington, Mr. Otis' son, tried his level best to deal with the strain with an american detergent, but suddenly the place was resounding with thunder and lighting. However, these event was not enough to scare the Otis family, who still stood by their belief that ghost did not exist.
